More Soldiers Losing Clearance Due to Finances
The Associated Press this week reported statistics on the increase in soldiers losing their security clearances due to financial debt. ClearedCommunity.com first posted news on this development this summer, when it was reported that payday lenders charging exorbitant interest were landing soldiers in financial trouble. Legislation under consideration by Congress would set limits on rates lenders can charge. Besides revealing statistics on clearance revocations, the AP attributes the problem of financial debt to additional causes, such as unchecked spending by relieved soldiers returning from Iraq.
