New Advertising Supplement on Clearances

In March, the Washington Times introduced a new advertising supplement called the Security Clearance Employment Resource Network (SCERN) Report. For the most part, it includes ads by large government information technology and defense contractors soliciting applications for jobs from persons holding active security clearances.

The first edition of the SCERN Report also had an educational component to it. Included was an essay by a corporate recruiting manager introducing the security clearance process and speaking to topics such as: types of agencies requiring clearance; why there are divergent sets of security requirements among agencies; factors considered when granting clearance; and reasons for delay in processing new clearance applications. The essay is difficult to read online so ClearedCommunity.com asked its author for permission to reprint it here, in full or part, or otherwise faciliate access but never heard back.

The SCERN Report is supposed to be semi-annual, with the next edition expected in this summer.
