Pentagon to Allow Contractors With Expired Clearances to Continue Work
The Office of Connecticut Congressman Rob Simmons reports that the Pentagon will allow defense contractors with pending but delayed clearance renewals to continue to work at a site in the State. Correspondence the Congressman received from the Pentagon clarifies DoD policy on handling of “expired” clearances. See also this story and this story.
In May, Congressman Simmons successfully offered an amendment to an appropriations bill prohibiting the Defense Department from allowing clearances caught up in bureaucratic delay to expire.
Subsequent correspondence from the Pentagon clarifies that clearances do not “expire,” that facility access must be allowed those with pending clearance renewals, and that the Joint Personnel Adjudication System (JPAS) is to be used to certify the status of clearances.
